Fun Monday – Holiday Gifts

Posted on: December 6, 2010

I just found out about Fun Monday over at Life Is Not Bubble Wrapped. My two craft projects (hat and cape) were a day early but Jill got me thinking about  gifts for the holiday season. I love this time of year but I hate the angst it causes when people are trying to find THE perfect gift for a loved one. Gone are the days of showing your love through gifts. Now we’re buying love with overpriced “must-have” gifts. Every year the gifts gets bigger and bigger for fear of disappointment for not topping what was given before. Or fear of showing others that you’re not financially as well of as you claim to be. Well, this year I’m working on homemade gifts. My family and friends know that I love them and I want them to FEEL that. So, I have 2 weeks and a lot to get done. Wish me luck. 🙂

I love making homemade gifts just as much as I love receiving them. Good luck on getting your gifts made! I’m sure they will be received with open arms.

Good luck and thanks for playing along. I’ll post something for next Monday in the coming days if you want to ‘play’ again! ❤ the cape idea. I'm not that good of a 'sew-er' aka seamstress with a machine, so I stick to stuff I can do by hand! Please post your creations before or after the holidays so I for one can see them (I've got you in my reader, so I'll see them whenever you post them!)

Thanks. I have something to post for tomorrow.
I can only handsew a few things and learning on the machine has been interesting. I’ll just have to keep practicing. And I have you in my reader as well.

I have gotten so tired of the commercialism that’s forced down our throats at Christmas time. I have an 11 year old son, so I’m resigned to the fact that I’ll have to buy him a couple of “off the shelf” type things, but everything else is being MADE! He’s rather enjoying the process though – and joining in. He asked if we could do more sewing tonight after homework!

I’m with you. The people who receive my homemade gifts know that I was thinking specifically of them when I was working on it – so they feel the love – even if it’s not perfect love!

There are things that I want my family and friends to have that I know I can only get in the stores. I just don’t like the propaganda that you don’t care about your loved ones in you don’t go into debt. But that happens around every major holiday.
